Can anyone give me any info on Kabbalah? Keep hearing about it and looked it up but wondered if anyone has personal experience.

((((((((( Evie )))))))) sorry I cant help you much with this one, but what I can tell you is that Kabbalah is a Jewish based spiritual philosophy about life and the universe as you probably already know if you have looked it up on the net

Hi All
I don't know a lot about Kabbalah either but I have heard some of the teachings and it's very interesting. It's something that I plan to investigate further. Many of the teachings are similar to spiritualism. It reminds me of Judiasm mixed with other eastern philosophies.
I'm also looking at Gnostic Christianity, advocated by Sylvia Brown. Both Kabbalah and Gnostic Christianity are very old but a lot of the teachings make so much sense. I'm sure that Spiritulism has borrowed from both of these.

| Thank you all for your response, I look forward to hearing more Angel. The only thing that concerns me at the moment about Kabbalah is the donating 10% of your earnings thing which sounds like another religion out there that I don't agree with. ??

| well suposedly the whole origin of the kabbalah is that when moses went up the mountain to see god he was given the teaching of the kabbalah and this is what man could do but he kept it secret and let very few know about it. then he was given the ten commandments and that is what man could not do. or so the story goes anyways. i have a book on it but it's name escapes me, i'll post it when i get home.

Everyone
I didn't know about the 10% tithe either, but it makes sense because somewhere in the bible there is a command that every person should give 10% of their income to God. Kabbalah is a form of Judiasm (It's called Mystical Judiasm).
They believe in the Chakras, reincarnation and Karma. However they are still looking for the Messiah so it's not for me. It is still very interesting and educational to read their teachings.
As I said before, Gnostic Christianity is also interesting. They believe in Spirit communication, reincarnation, etc. I see it as sort of "thinking outside the box." They also highly advocate the teachings of Edgar Cayce. I haven't joined or decided yet for myself but still seeking like the rest of us.

I've only heard of kabballah through reading magazines and seeing stars like Madonna (and now Posh spice), you see them with the red cotton tied round their wrists. I also saw a man last week, he was at a cash machine I was behind him. He had a red bit of cotton round his wrist. He was quite flash..he had a nice audi sports car. I was chuckling to myself thinking thats his point of conversation when chatting up girls!
But the 10% thing..what exactly do they do with it once they get it?? I couldnt see myself giving 10% of my earnings to a religion!!

I was invited yesterday by some friends to an open day at the Kabbalah centre in London and found it very interesting. I went with an open mind but I was also aware to question some parts of it as well. The lectures gave a brief grounding in the philosophy and ideas, whilst being very down to earth. I found that a lot of what was spoken about has much in common with Spiritualism and incoporates study into Clairvoyancy and Divination as well as personal spiritualism and soul growth. There was also room to question some of the negative press surrounding Kabbala, including asking about giving 10% of your income (!). Everyone I spoke to said that whilst there were charges for doing courses, in order to sustain the centre and for further education, no one had ever been asked or coerced to give a percentage of income. The impression I had was that people could donate, but it was entirely their own choice. The courses do sound interesting, so I may go along to find out some more. Does anyone have any thoughts on Kaballah or experience on their study

The qabalah - Kabalah - cabalah all the same name, is an ancient hebrew path working meditation. It is also called "The Tree of Life". A lot of information came to light about the qabalah in the dead sea scrolls.
It was not a religion as such.
This is how it works. There are 10 spheres (Sephhiroth) connecting these 10 spheres are 22 paths.
The base sphere is called Malkuth which roughly translates as basic man / earth
The aim of the Qabalah is to meditate and visualise your journey along the 22 paths and 10 spheres up to the higest sphere which is called Kether, which means GOD or the The Power of Ceation.
As you journey to find your own truths upon the paths of the Qabalah, you keep a journal to help you remember your travels. It is a solitary journey, even if you do it within a group.
The best book I ever read about the True Qabalah was:-
"Mystical Qabalah" by Dion Fortune. I read this book way back in the 1980's
To my mind, Man made religions to control Man.

reading through this and something went click in my mind, i have no idea if this is relevent but in the little white book of crowleys thoth tarot there is a brief introduction regarding kabbalah and a slight understanding about the tree of life. But looking through, it seems more of a philosophie, (and how the tarot are actually pictural representations of various branches from the tree of life) or as much as i can make out. Gotta get me the book of thoth
just looked this up online and apparently kabbalah was actually deep rooted in the teachings of 'the hermatic order of the golden dawn'. which les to the organisation of many occult organisations to date. Still have no idea if its relevent but if you google it, it makes for some interesting (if not wierd) reading

Maybe this is where the Scientologists got the idea from... I think their percentage is higher but then they also attract people like John Travolta and Tom Cruise to name but a few.
Word of warning , don't check out Scientology on the net... they track your movements and on one occasion managed to find my email details and kept pestering me till I had to block them. How they managed this heaven knows. Was kinda scary! All I was doing was research for a R.E. Project we were doing on different religions when I was working at the school.......
