After an interesting discussion in the chatroom the other night, how do you perceive god? Nearly all religions believe in a god in one form or another, even some sort of afterlife. It seems no matter what religious beliefs we have they all point to some spiritual afterlife or spiritual force.

My perception of god is not of one single man/woman but a universal energy which is present in each and every one of us, when I pray to god I feel I'm praying to many spirits, a collective energy not one single person ie guides and helpers.

So how do you perceive god, if at all you belive there is a god?

Well, as you said almost every religion, points to some kind of higher power. It occurs to me that since religions were formed in certain areas (Ie Buddhism was in Japan and China, the native Americans formed their own religions), that they would have had no contact with each other, meaning they all formed these beliefs on their owns without outside influence. It occurs to me that since so many came up with the same idea of a higher power, it can't really be discounted, whether this power be in the form of a being, or like mark said, many beings.

Yes I believe in God, and I believe Jesus was the first documented person to speak to spirit, and they were, I like to think Angels. Which of coarse were helpers of God (how could one being do all this alone)
Now then God? Have you ever thought about things like the Pyramids? How they where built? The technology it would have taken to build them and make them work?
Maybe God and his Angels where not of this planet, but where simular being to ourselfs, if not the same. It mite be that we where put on this planet to live our lifes and learn (this is what we do constantly) so that we can go on to better things at a higher leavel. This maybe due to what God and his family have already experianced and dont want us to make the same errors as thier kind did, so we have to learn on the earth before we pass over to what most of us call Heaven.
This is such a complexed subject I could go on & on, but dont want to bore the pants off youhahahaha

As always God Bless Mat

(((((((((((((((((G.l & everyone))))))))))))
To me god is all "THAT IS", a huge collective energy force of earth and spirit energies that all work in unison for the good of mankind , whether these energies vibrate through plants, nature, trees, the sun, the moon, the stars, the whole universe houses a huge universal force and energy source that i myself would perceive as being that of god, the universal divine essence and love.

I have never encountered God as a man, a woman or a human, because of this i have no evidence to back up such a theory that god is a man a person or otherwise,I'm not saying that i don't believe as such but because i have never had the pleasure of shaking hands with god i can't honestly say that god is a man/woman or otherwise, i go with what my own personal perception of the divine light force is and they are as i have already mentioned above, a huge collective energy source

Oh my i could talk about this forever, but i think my input says what i feel

With all my love and huge hugs
God Bless You

((((( All )))))

Hi,

My perception of God is as has already been said a Great Energy.

I believe that the energy is made up from everyone who has lived before. Everyone who lives now. And everyone who will live in the future. Including all forms of life, the animal kingdom and the trees and plants.

I imagine God to be like the sun. A great ball of Energy. Sparks of Energy fly off and become new life and tired Energy is drawn back to its source like a magnet. Within the ball is a community made of different levels of energy all doing their bit.

I probably sound like a mad woman now but it makes sense to me!!!

God Bless. xxx

Hi Everyone

To me God is an Electro-magnetic force that resonates truth, keeping our universe together through gravity; and energy is tranferred via electrical, chemical and biological processes. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only transferred in form. Consciousness is a universal hum easily tapped into and I believe every thought, action repentence and prayer etc. is recorded forever in the field of consciousness. I believe Jesus, Buddah, Vishnu etc. all walked the Earth, I also believe each and every one of us is capable of miracles through life and afterlife by opening our selves to the totally of this 'field' of truth rather than fearing it's ultimate death of body, which is impossible to experience one's own death.

We are all safe, I'm conscious of this ultimate truth, but I believe our lives are one continuum of one totality of one universal consciousness.

I hope I haven't confused anyone!!!!

With much love

another person could take great pleasure from doing that meaning his balance is slightly towards the bad than mine

I think its quite interesting that so far that you all but one of you see God as an energy force, a universal energy rather than a person, which makes me think about such things as the books "Conversations With God" where the author is claiming to talk to god as an individual person when I personally believe they are channelling philosophy from a guide, even If god was a person I don't realistically believe he would have the time to talk to one individual about his plans, what do you all think?

(((((((((( hi all)))))))))))

hmmmmmmmmmmm well i believe in the bible and love the stories in it, i have spoken to a woman and so has paul who firmly believes and says she has talked to god and to jesus and no one can tell her different, i think my perception of god is that he/she/both lol is a great white light that is a spirit/ angel or creation of its own, i believe in satan and evil things too and think that they are dark and horrible and scares the hell out of me, i dont really believe that god talks to anyone imparticular but feel the energies around god touch all of us at some points in our lives, especially when things are tough for us, as for gods plans, well i think god only knows that and it is something we will all find out as we go along our lifes path.

ohhhhhhhhh well just my humble opinion lol you got me thinking now and my brain hurts lol

take care

I think we can all talk to God and Jesus, whether we get a direct answer back from them is a completely different thing.

Even Satan (Lucifer) was supposedly an arch angel who simply wanted to take over from god and not necessarily of evil intent.

Its funny how when Satan is mentioned that we all seem to think evil, even I do but if the bible is studied in great detail its not really like that, maybe Lucifer just had different ideas on how things should be done, of course this is from one book, a book that has be written and rewritten over many years, I bet the first ever version of the bible ever written will tell a completely different story to how it is today, as I should imagine that things have been left out and things added to fit in the Christian belief, you could see it as a big game of Chinese whispers where one story is told to one person by the time it reaches the last person the story is completely different.

I have never really believed in god as a person to be honest I just dont know. Although the idea of universal energy makes more sense to me, rather than there being just one person.
But does anyone know where the actual name/word God comes from?? I probably did learn all of this at school though I cant remember! I know that there are gods and goddesses...but what does the word mean? does god come from goddess?

Anyway, no I do not believe that there is one man who is god and the creater of all life (that would be pretty hard work for one bloke!) but like GL and some others said, I believe more that its a universal life force. I also like the idea of what Johnson said...

I don't really believe that God is a person but a divine spirit of some sort. How he evolved or exists is probably something we will never know until we all 'meet our maker'. On Saturday I had a gentleman at my door who is a Jehova Witness and he left me a pamphlet to read which was about what several high profile scientists now believe regarding the existence of a God. Surprisingly, more and more of these eminent gentlemen now believe that (quote: 'when you realize that the laws of nature must be incredibly finely tuned to produce the universe we see, that conspires to plant the idea that the universe did not just happen but that there must be a purpose behind it'. An Australian Physicist also pointed out (quote 'there is no doubt that many scientists are scornful of the notion that there might exist a God, or even an impersonal creative principle. Personally I do not share their scorn...I cannot believe that our existence in the universe is a mere quirk of fate....an incidental blip in the great cosmic drama'. unquote) Many scientists unhesitatingly declare their belief in a Creator. Although some have broad and vague ideas about who God is, they still agree that the evidence points to an intelligent Designer. It certainly surprised me to learn that there are more and more scientists who think in this way and it leaves me to believe that I am right in thinking that some sort of divine being does exist.

greetings my friends

Thank you oh so much for putting forward this topic Guiding Light!!! Has anybody watched the new series on ch4 about Pagans. When we go back over 2000 years ALL Europeans lived a pagan life, which was unfortunately sabotaged by the then 'New Religion' Christianity. Archeologists, historians, anthropologists and the like have studied our past to enlighten us on our fundamental heritage and simple way of life. It also answers many questions we have asked ourselves of why do we dislike being alone? Why do we have certain 'bad habits' we should we feel guilty about doing this or thinking that? The series is incredibly interesting the first episode was aired last week.

The closest I've ever come to what afterlife is, is in the artisticly wonderful film, 'What Dreams May Come' with Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding jnr. I believe to become enlightened you have to go beyond the intellect and actualy feel unconditional love for everything and everyone, give up hate completely, anger, grief, pride, desire etc.

I felt great comfort in the knowingness at the death of my Great Aunty Jean that her spirit left her body; Aunty Jean who I knew and loved was not her face, it was what made her face smile and what made her face show loving concern and what makes me feel the way I feel now. Obviously I cried at HER loss of life of her pain, but not of my loss because I have not lost her or I wouldn't be writing about her now.

God is a consciousness, our past efforts to cure incurable diseases (which ARE miracles)of the past are not lost through the death of the curer but are recorded forever and used to benefit people forever. If you think of the ripple effect, one person actually does touch every human being whether we like it or not. For instance, do we know the author of the every day joke that makes us laugh? Do we gives thanks to the unknown person for lifting our spirits?

IT'S MARVELLOUS!!!

I was christened Roman Catholic, but since completely recovering from bi-polar disorder a frighteningly growing mental health complaint, AND in fact completely curable!!!!!! I have delved into the unknown and I now know that I'm not an ist of anything LOL!!! I am, you are, we are and we will always be safe. God is good without the 'o' and evil with a 'd' in front of it is LOL. If you spell 'lived' backwards it's LOL!!!

The only thing satan with a small 's' brought to mankind was fear in all it's guises, it just comes from the EGO which attaches itself to us when we feel vulnerable.

MY!!!! I'm so glad I got it all off my chest.

To anyone who feels fear or grief of ANY KIND please!!!! I promise you with my heart and soul Trust Your Self, don't doubt your true and honest actions.

God Bless you Audrey (nan) Happy Birthday Your spirit may have passed but only within my soul.

Thank You Guiding Light (Mark) for your wonderful website and all who use it.

hmmmmm what a heavy topic of discussion i think the bible is really one of the best stories ever written, did the contents of the bible really happen? well i dont think so i cant say there is a god why is there as much suffering in the world.
the story of noah tells us that god wasnt happy with the human race so he wiped it out less about 10 people and started it again. i dont belive for one second the people he got rid of then were as bad as the ones we have now.
no i dont belive in god, up until last year i didnt belive in spirituality i now belive there is something there when we die but not one all mighty being watching our every move it's a hard one to fathom out it needs many cigarettes a large jug of coffee and a coversation that goes on into the wee small hours

Ahhh what a great topic of conversation I believe in God & I believe *some* of what is written in the Bible. The only thing that plagues me about the Bible is that it was written by man...and we all know the game where "x" number of people stand in a line. One person starts a saying & the next people have to repeat it ... and by the time it hits the last person, it's usually completely different from the original. So this is my problem with the Bible.

As far as God goes, I believe that he is one person. I believe that he is an energy source that can be with anyone, anywhere, anytime. I pray constantly to both God and to the angels above. I believe in Satan & I believe that there is a certain way of life that will cause you to "sway" to his way of life.

I see God everywhere though. Any time I see happy people, a beautiful day, or whatever it may be, I see Him there. Not so much as a person then, but as a presence.

That's just my 2 cents

What a topic! So many different opinions and at the end of the day nobody knows. I believe God is what you want it to be, and don't think I will get any more deeply involved in this discussion, I will be anobserver on this one, LOL.
